For the past twenty-five years, Chef Jarvis Colbert has been cooking up modern and authentic dishes in the Chicagoland area. He started his culinary journey at the age of 15 working at a pizzeria where he discovered his love for cooking. Starting out in the fast-food industry, he learned how to deliver service quickly and precise. His experience led him to more fine-dining cooking where he learned flavors and consistency.
After learning how to make the best gourmet popcorn in Chicago working for Garrett Popcorn Shops on Michigan Ave he accepted his first Chef position at the age of 26 for a dive bar in downtown Chicago. There he executed a large burger bar menu which featured over 13 specialty burgers.
His culinary journey has allowed him to showcase his skills in stadiums, hotels, food truck, pop-ups, corporate kitchens, French fine-dining, farm-to-table restaurants and catering events. He has worked for restaurant establishments such as Blue Frog, Bar Marta, Best Intentions, Congress Hotel, Cubs Stadium, Compass Group, Estate on the River, Red Door, The Slide Ride, Soulsation Catering, Fooda, Heritage Caviar Bar, Homestead on the Roof and Le Petit Paris.
His continued passion for cooking delicious and comforting food for others inspires those who he works with to make themselves a little bit better every day! Chef Jarvis enjoys listening to live music, bowling and experiencing new restaurant offerings in the Chicagoland area with different cuisines such as African, Filipino, Mediterranean etc. He currently resides in Chicago, IL with his wife and two children. Now he is ready to introduce and bring his style of cooking modern Soul Food to the Chicagoland area. Starting with his first restaurant concept Soulsation – A Modern Soul Food Eatery. Here he will be offering menu items from fried watermelon, buffalo frog legs, sweet potato gnocchi to traditional southern staples. The restaurant will also feature live music giving local artist a platform to showcase their music.
